14 Day Celtic Kingdoms Cruise aboard the ms Prinsendam
Greenwich, England to Dover, England
July 3-17, 2009
Greenwich, London, England – Stand on the line where east meets
west at the Greenwich Royal Observatory, home of 0° longitude. On the
River Thames, tour the Cutty Sark clipper ship and the National Maritime
Museum. Admire the architecture of the Royal Naval College, or simply
stroll the borough, named a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1997.
Newcastle upon Tyne, England – With a 2,000 year-old history, and
picturesque location in the heart of Northumbria, Newcastle is an
awesome sight, with its River Tyne crossed by six bridges, each one
with a story all its own. From Earl Grey's Monument, stroll Grey Street
and enjoy its fine Georgian architecture - including the impressive
Theatre Royal. The Castle Keep is on the site of an 11th century 'New
Castle' built by William the Conqueror's son. Don t miss Blackfriars, a
13th century Dominican monastery - and Hadrian's Wall, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site.
Leith (Edinburgh), Scotland – Today’s Leith is beyond recognition
than its earlier years. A building and development boom started in
1995 has transformed the overall feel of this fascinating city.
Edinburgh, its neighboring city, once separated by open fields, is now
seamlessly integrated into Leith. Visitors can now easily visit both
areas by foot or public transportation. Leith has not forgotten its past,
magnificent architecture from earlier waves of investment remains
on view and historical buildings dating back to the 1600s can be seen.
Belfast, Ireland – Belfast is Northern Ireland's second largest city.
Flanked by a series of hills, including Cavehill, a basaltic outcrop is
thought to be the inspiration for Jonathan Swift's novel, Gulliver's
Travels. The legendary Titanic built in 1912, had once made Belfast
the largest shipyard in the world. Discover The Murals, vividly painted
on houses; exquisite Irish linens, and the bizarre landscape of the
Giant's Causeway.
Dublin, Ireland – A sophisticated city with a rich literary tradition.
Dublin is home to such literary pens as Joyce, Shaw, Pearse and
Yeats; their works and personal items can be enjoyed at the Dublin
Writers Museum, James Joyce Museum and the Shaw Birthplace.
Discover Trinity College's Library, with its Illuminated Book of Kells,
and the more modern wonder of the Guinness Brewery.
Dunmore East, Waterford, Ireland – In this city, founded in 853 by the
Vikings, the attraction is clearly the crystal factory. Follow all stages of
production, observing how sand, lead and potash are transformed by
fire into sparkling crystal.
Guernsey, Channel Islands – Twenty-four square miles of an unspoiled
British isle. Georgian homes climb the hill above the picturesque harbor.
Dover (London), England – From the White Cliffs to the pounding
seas at Land's End, the South of England is a place of legend and
literature, with a coastline as dramatic as its 4,000-year history.
