Port Highlights

Venice  Nicknamed the “City of Canals,” Venice is built on an archipelago of more than 100 islands formed by about 150 canals. The canals serve as roads in areas that cannot be served by foot or automobile. Quaint cobblestone streets, vast town squares, colorful markets, and Baroque architecture line the historical wonders of this city. Once known as a naval powerhouse, Venice is now more known as a lavish, romantic city that must be visited at least once in a lifetime.
Shore excursions on the first and last day of a cruise are only available for guests who are combining back-to-back voyages to create a longer cruise. Those guests may organize custom tours through the Destination Services Desk on board

Dubrovnik Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” Dubrovnik was founded in the 7th century by a group of refugees from Epidaurum (today’s Cavtat). It is known worldwide for its unique marble-paved squares, tall houses, steep-cobbled streets and fountains. The city walls, once used to as protection against its enemies, now keep motorists at bay in this picturesque town. UNESCO named the Old City a World Heritage Site, and Dubrovnik’s beautiful historic sites have been restored.

Corfu  Legendary Corfu is a lush and romantic island, written about by Homer in his famous Odyssey. The island's history is full of battles, indicative of Corfu's turbulent position that lasted until modern times with unification with modern Greece in 1864. Corfu offers a combination of cosmopolitan and time-honored Greece. As well as a flower-strewn countryside and Adriatic-style villages, Corfu has splendid coastal scenery and some excellent secluded beaches.

Sarande Situated on an open sea gulf on the Ionian, Sarrande is the capital of the e in Albania. It is one of the most important tourist attractions of the Albanian Riviera. Part of its original population moved to Greece during the large exodus in the early 1990s. Opposite Sarande is another tourist attraction, the Greek island of Corfu. Near Sarande are the remains of Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Katakolon Katakolon is gateway to ancient Olympia, the chief sanctuary of Zeus. After many centuries of competition which began as early as the eighth century BC, the panhellenic festival was created in 776 AD. Ancient competitions included boxing, wrestling, running, jumping, and the discus throw. It is still honored with the Olympics Games every four years. The ancient site of Olympia is also home to the Temple of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Taormina (Naxos) Naxos is gateway to the island of Sicily’s strategically significant northeastern region and is also famous as the most fertile island of the Cyclades. Its strategic position attracted many occupants, including the Greeks, Romans and Phoenicians. From Naxos, it is a short transfer to Taormina, resting 820 feet above the sea and overlooking Mount Etna. During the early 20th century, Taormina became a colony for expatriate artists and writers, including D H Lawrence.

Sorrento/Capri Sorrento is surely one of the world’s most beautiful towns, built on a coast with breathtaking views and landscapes. Yet it is far from a frivolous vacation destination. The houses, people and the entire region is filled with a history and culture so deep that it can be traced back to the 11th century BC. Overlooking the bay of Naples, the town is the key point on the Sorrentine Peninsula and is one of the most popular destinations of the entire Campania region.

Civitavecchia (For Rome) The images conjured up by the mere mention of Rome encompass everything from the Roman Catholic Church to Romulus and Remus. The city’s ancient history is so vast that many of the sights seen in history books and travel brochures are in this area. The Eternal City showcases St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in the world; the Sistine Chapel, home to Michelangelo’s brilliant ceiling; and the Trevi Fountain, a landmark renowned throughout the world

Florence/Pisa (Livorno) Livorno, located in the center of Tuscany, is the gateway to Florence. This was the birthplace of the Italian language and the inspirational Renaissance movement. From the 13th to 16th centuries, this era of creative freedom encouraged artists, scientists, writers and architects to create some of the world's most noted masterpieces. Among those who reached the heights of success were Dante, Donatello, Michelangelo, Giotto, Botticelli, da Vinci, and Machiavelli.

Marseille Marseille, located in southeastern France, has a complicated history dating back to the seventh century BC when the Greeks arrived from Asia Minor. The town is now a far cry from the Cézanne paintings and the clichés of sleepy villages. With more than a million people, Marseille is the country’s largest commercial seaport. The vast majority of the Marsellaise are descendants of the waves of immigrants that arrived at the port in the early 19th century.

Barcelona One of Europe’s most visually stunning cities, Barcelona balances the medieval intimacy of its Gothic Quarter with the grace and distinction of the wide boulevards in the Moderniste Eixample. It was the home of architect Antoni Gaudí, whose buildings are the most startling statements of Modernisme. The triumphant culmination of Barclona's rebirth was the staging of the 1992 Olympics, for which freeways were installed, stadiums renovated, and promenades created.
